Master Teacher Certification 2010

Program Description
The Georgia Master Teacher Certification Program is designed to achieve Governor Perdue’s goal of providing statewide recognition for full-time certified public school teachers with at least three years of teaching on a clear renewable certificate in Georgia who consistently demonstrate excellence in the classroom through gains in student achievement.

Minimum Criteria:
  • Evidence of student achievement and student progress
  • Full-time Georgia Public School Teacher
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching on a Clear Renewable Certificate in Georgia
Renewal for Master Teachers:
The validity period for Master Teachers who achieved this designation in 2006 has been extended to six years. During the next three months, Georgia is developing a proposal for Race to the Top funding. Because the development of this proposal may include some changes in the Master Teacher program, it is not prudent at this time to establish criteria for renewal. The process for renewal will be established after the status of our Race to the Top submission is known.

Special note for lab situations:
Lab situations which are scripted programs or Computer Assisted Instruction will not be eligible for this phase (2010).
NOTICE: All applicants will be processed through the Ethics Division of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to check for a sanction or a pending action before reviewing the application.
If you have been sanctioned by the PSC for an Ethics violation, you must submit an explanation of the incident leading to the sanction and a rationale as to why this should not prohibit your selection as a Master Teacher.

Application Timeframe:
The application process for Master Teacher Certification 2010 are:
  • Open for All Applications: September 15, 2009.
  • Deadline for CRCT: December 15, 2009
  • Deadline for non-CRCT and Instructional Coach applications:
    January 31, 2010
Application Process:
The 2010 application process provides the opportunity for the applicants to follow the guidelines specific to their teaching/coaching situations. For details on the application process, the applicant accesses the school level (Elementary, Middle, or Secondary) that corresponds with the teaching assignment.
